Music

Music Curriculum Vision

At Brooke School, music will engage and inspire learners to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, increasing their self-confidence, communication, creativity and sense of achievement.

Learners will acquire the knowledge and skills to critically engage with music in order to compose and listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.

To accomplish this, we have planned a curriculum that combines elements of performing, listening and composing connected to the inter-related dimensions of music; pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notation.

Key Aims:

  • Learners will explore, perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including works of great composers and musicians.
  • Learners will learn to use their voices to create and compose music on their own and with their peers.
  • Learners will have the opportunity to explore and learn a variety of musical instruments.
  • Learners will explore and increase their understanding of how music is created, produced and communicated.
  • Learners will have the opportunity for wider musical development through clubs, trips and visitors.
