Pear

Welcome to Pear Class

In Pear Class, our learners are on the Explorer Pathway designed specifically for learners with Complex Needs.  We follow the informal curriculum that encourages each learner to master their skills through the development of independence, fluency, maintenance and generalisation.

Each learner has a personalised learning goal for each of our four curriculum areas; Communication and interaction, Cognition and learning (including Environmental Control Technology), Social, Emotional and Mental health, and Physical, Sensory and Independence.

Each term, we have a topic focus to ensure a breadth of engaging learning experiences, this term our topic is ‘Elmer’, with lots of sensory activities around the Elmer story linked to friendships, colours and elephants.

Learning Showcase

Exciting moments from Gecko will appear in this space, including any pictures or videos we take.  Please keep checking in, in order to see what the learners have been up to!

Autumn 2024

Our story this term in Pear Class has been The Enormous Turnip. We explored ways to engage in this traditional tale through vocalising to our friends and pulling the turnip out together. In our My Place in the World Session, we have explored planting and growing, decorating our window with ‘sprout houses’ to grow cress and lettuce.

Spring 2025

Our story this term in Pear Class has been The Magic Train Ride. Our learners have been exploring different sensory environments linked to the placed visited in the story. In our My Creativity sessions, we have explored the  fast and slow pace within the story, as well as some environmental sounds including train whistle, animal sounds and space sounds. The learners have worked together on collaborative process art to create a window display of the story.
